The international jury and the children’s jury of Envirofilm 2010 awarded 17 prizes. Three films obtained two prizes each. As usually, the award ceremony took place in the Zvolen castle where the participants were welcomed by the Mayor of Zvolen, Miroslav Kusein. Then the Minister of the Environment of the SR hold a speech and the chairman of the festival jury František Palonder evaluated this year’s competition of environmental films.

Children’s jury, consisting of pupils from primary schools in Banská Bystrica, awarded the Prize of the Children’s Jury to the Slovak film Carstenz – the Seventh Summit made by the director Pavol Barabáš. The prize was handed over by the children’s jury chairman Bronislava Grešková and taken over by Vlado Zboja, a long-time friend of Pavol Barabáš and a member of the expedition to New Guinea.

Children’s jury decided also on the Prize of Radio Regina. For the excellent sound the prize went to the French film Aliens of the Amazon: Episode 2: Secret Alliance. The prize from the hands of Mariana Kovačechová from Radio Regina was received by the Director of Alliance Francaise Banská Bystrica Katarína Mrázová. |

The Slovak film Carstenz – the Seventh Summit stands in respect and admiration for nature while at the same time depicts man’s everlasting desire to overcome it. The film clearly highlights the human spirit best described in the Olympic motto “ Citius, Altius, Fortius” – “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”. The film won the Prize of the President of the Slovak Olympic Committee. For Pavol Barabáš the prize received again Vlado Zboja.

This German film Broken Tail’s Last Will fascinated the jury, not only through brilliant camera work depicting the life of tigers, but as well the author’s passionate narration expressing his love and admiration for these predators. The film of the directors C. S. Johnson and J. Murray (Ireland) won the Prize of the General Director of the Slovak Television. Christopher Rosenbaum from the German Academic Scholarship took over the award from Marta Gajdošíková (STV).

Hugo Haberman – the Czech diver and filmmaker, proves again with his film Leštinka Stone Quarry – Flooded History that he is able to combine pictures of underwater life with a catchy narration about the history that has coursed along the banks of his beloved water areas. Pavel Šremer from the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic received the prize on behalf of the author and the prize was presented by the Chairman of Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region Vladimír Maňka. |
The Prize of the Mayor of Kremnica City went to the German film For Cod’s Sake, which presents an interesting depiction of a serious problem in the Baltic Region. It serves as a dire warning of an impending disaster and its inevitable consequences for the life of both humans and fishes. Christopher Rosenbaum took over the prize from the Mayor of Kremnica Zuzana Balážová.

The Iranian film Hunter is a magic story of a young hunter who speaks the birds’ language and acquires the attributes of a bird predator... The Prize of the Mayor of Banská Štiavnica City was handed over by the Vice-Mayor Juraj Čabák to the Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the matters of Slovakia Ali Amiri, who will arrange for its delivery to the author.

The Prize of the Mayor of Banská Bystrica City goes to Australia. Seed Hunter is a document about the construction of a modern day “ark” in the depths of an Arctic glacier, created to rescue the plant kingdom and in so doing preserve vital parts of man’s food chain. From the Mayor of Banská Bystrica Ivan Saktor the prize was taken over by the General Director of the Slovak Environmental Agency Daniel Dudok, who will arrange for sending it to Australia.

The Prize of the Mayor of Krupina City for the Best Amateur Film goes to the Slovak film In Uhlisko above Porúbka - a surprisingly strong document and professional treatment of the subject where the author presents an exposé of the toil of a man and a horse as they haul logs in the mountains of Slovakia. The Mayor of Krupina Radoslav Vazan gave the prize to Štefan Kido, the member of the Nicolaus film group |

A unique seizing of the theme and an accurate adherence to the genre. Already now we can say that this extraordinary document will have a unique place in the history of Slovak films. This was said about the Slovak film Arsy-Versy. The author of the film, Miro Reno, is a young director, a student of the VŠMU, who received the Prize of the Festival Director for the Best Film by a Slovak Director in person from the Festival Director Jaroslav Jaduš. .

In C category the jury awarded the German film Adventure of Research – Unrecognised Treasures: Every Species Count for a precisely elaborated theme of biodiversity and economic stability. Its filmmakers not only warn but also show ways of improvement and necessary changes in thinking that bring benefits and balance in the natural environment and human settlements as well. Again, the award was taken over by Christopher Rosenbaum from the German Academic Scholarship.

Steve Lichtag´s Last Hunters is a wide historical fresco of a battle between man and a predator – the sperm whale. The author tells his engrossing story about the last whale hunters who continue a tradition that has endured for centuries. But can they withstand the pressures of the “civilized world”? Steve Lichtag received the prize in the B Category (Documentaries) in person. Again, it was handed over by Jaroslav Jaduš and František Palonder.

In A category (Journalistic Programmes and Films) the jury awarded the Spanish film User Manual for a Spaceship. The authors reveal in it a multilayered and original way the impacts of climate change. On behalf of the author the award was received by Lara Gonzales Castaňo.

And, finally, the Grand Prix of the festival. The winner is the British document Garbage Warrior of the director Oliver Hodge. This film, a long-term and arduous observation of reversals in the life of the architect Michael Reynolds, enriched by extraordinary filmmaking skill, offers what may be called an adventure. The story ends with a mission of a vision, ecology and courage. The Minister of the Environment of SR Jozef Medveď and the jury chairman František Palonder handed the trophy to Konrad Rieppl from Great Britain.

The work of the young Slovak author Jana Sadloňová was esteemed by the Prize of the Union of the Slovak Television Programmes Makers and the Literature Fund for relentless transmission of emotions and knowledge about the life of natural forest by means of sophisticated film resources.
