Basic Provisions
The objective of the Festival is to present new film, TV and video programmes that broaden know-ledge about nature and environmental protection by their contents and artistic level.
ENVIROFILM provides an opportunity for international co-operation and exchange of opinions and helps to find new ways for their application. It is a meeting place for creative filmmakers and experts.
The programme of the Festival consists of an international contest of films and video programmes, projection of non-competing films for children dealing with nature and environmental protection, conferences, professional and creative seminars and workshops, „green discussions“, meetings, press conferences and other accompanying events.
Film and video programmes sent for the Festival should focus on nature and environmental protection, sustainable development, environmentally friendly technologies and healthy lifestyles.
Official languages of the Festival are Slovak and English.


Participation Conditions

Film and video programmes for the international contest may be submitted by their producers, distributors, owners, authors or legal entities.
Only films and videos produced after the 1st January 2001 may be accep-ted for the international contest. Participation in other festivals does not preclude from the participation in ENVIROFILM.
Number of films sent for the contest is not limited, however each cassette may contain just one film.  
• 16-mm films, BETACAM SP, DVCAM, DV, S-VHS and VHS cassettes are acceptable for presentation. BETACAM SP or DVCAM videocassettes are requested for the free projection of films for public.
• Films and videocassettes must be delivered to the address shown on the entry form before 15 February 2003. Mail and insurance charges are to be covered by the sender.
• Every film must have a title and the filled entry form must be sent with it.
• A short film summary (annotation) in English, German, Czech or Slovak is requested, as well as a photography, professional biography and filmography of the author. The text should be delivered on the 3.5 diskette in DOC (MS-Word) format and 1 hard copy.
• The film must be accompanied with a complete commentary in one of the following languages: English, German, French, Russian, Spanish, Czech or Slovak with scientific (Latin) names of flora and fauna.
• The awarded titles will remain for good in the archive of the Festival Secretariat and the archive keeper undertakes not to use them for commercial purposes.
• The organiser reserves the privilege of presenting the awarded titles free of charge in news and publicist broadcasts promoting the Festival in the Slovak Republic.


International Contest

The Pre-selection Committee, consisting of experts from the field of film and television and environmentalists, will appraise the films and video programmes for admittance into the contest. The Committee is appointed by the Festival Director. It will appraise the compliance with the conditions pursuant to par. I and II of these Rules and the technical level of films.
•     Films dealing with the protection of environmental components (such as water, soil, air, bedding rocks, etc.), nature and landscape protection, protection of health, residential and working environment (impacts of Man’s economic activity and possibility to eliminate these negative impacts), global problems of the Earth, environmental education, promotion, civil activities, economic and social aspects of the environment, optimum use of natural resources, sustainable agricultural production, ecologisation of agriculture and international co-operation can be submitted to the contest.
• Film and video programmes, included in the international contest, shall be evaluated by the International Professional Jury consisting of film and TV personalities and environmentalists from Slovakia and abroad. The Jury chairman and members are appointed by the Festival Director.
 
•     Films, TV and video programmes shall be classified in following categories:
A    Publicistic video programmes (magazines) and films
B    Documentaries
C    Educational and instructive video programmes and films
D    Dramatic films on the Festival topic (animated cartoons, puppet films, videoclips, etc.)
 
The International Jury will decide on following prizes:
•     GRAND PRIX of the ENVIROFILM endowed with 2,500 EUR
•     Main prize in A category - for the best script of the publicist video programme (magazine) or film - to be awarded by the Minister of the Environment of the SR
•     Main prize in B category - for the best production of a documentary - to be awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the SR
•     Main prize in C category - for the best script of the educational video programme or film - to be awarded by the Minister of Education of the SR
•     Main prize in D category - for the best production of the dramatic film (animated cartoons, puppet films, videoclips, etc.) - to be awarded by the Minister of Culture of the SR
The Jury is entitled to recommend the awarding of Prizes of the Minister of Agriculture of the SR, of the Mayors of Banská Bystrica, Zvolen and Banská Štiavnica, of the Rector of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Banská Bystrica, of the Rector of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, of the Rector of the Technical University in Zvolen, of the General Director of the Slovak Environmental Agency and of the main mass media partner.
The International Jury is also entitled to recommend films and video programmes for the competition categories of the International Environmental Festival of Festivals „Ecomove 2003“.
A non-statutory prize will be awarded during the Awarding Ceremony. This is the Prize of the Union of Slovak Television Programmes Makers and the Literature Fund for the long-term contribution in the field of Slovak audio-visual production focused on the environment. This Prize is governed by its own statute.

 


Personal Attendance

Registration forms for personal attendance are to be sent to the address of the organiser.
•     Participants will obtain information materials upon registration at the Festival and have free entry to the Festival as well as all accompanying events.
•     Participants provide for accommodation by a binding order. The costs connected with the stay are to be covered by the participants themselves.

 


Final Provisions

•     The non-awarded titles will be returned to the film senders after 20 August 2003.
•     Entry for the participation in the contest also acknowledges consent with the wording of the Festival Rules.
