Yesterday evening the Art Cinema belonged to an American film maker Godfrea Reggio' s film production. All nine years he was preparing himself for the film Koyaanisqatsi,1983 . This is a sugestive look at self-murdering features of the contemporary industrial civilization.
The film is followed up with the film Powaqqatsi,1988,showing an antithesis between the consumptive society and the original naturalism of the 3rd world.
What does the author say about his films?
When I was introducing the film at Berlin festival people were applauding, but as for Powaqqatsi people were hissing, because they had feelings that I idealize and romantize the poverty of the 3 rd world.Everything depends on a definition of poverty. People who live in the U.S.A., Western Europe or in Japan they pray to materialistic Gods and poverty define as the lack of things. It was painful for me to find out that after Berlin Wall falling people from the former communist block started praying to the same Gods.....
He considers technology as nowadays' opium, which controls and swallows up us. Artistic experience after watching-
his films functions purgatively on spectator's soul, longing for the unity between man and the nature.
