From the Festival History
The ENVIROFILM festival is already for many years a well-known international environmental occasion, on which the best shots of film makers from the whole world are yearly awarded. It is a place of meeting of film makers, environmentalists, journalists, members of international association of environmental festivals ECOmove International and public, especially to which the film show is address. It was created in 1995 by decision of the minister of environment as one of the few festivals on the whole world supported by government. The logo of festival is a quatrefoil and the main price – a plaquette by academic sculptor Mikuláš Palko, known as „Wing of a bird“ was the main price in nine years of Envirofilm. Since the 10-th year the main price is presented by spatial substantiation of globe, a work of art by designers from Monetagium of Kremnica.
In time of twelve years Envirofilm became a well-known and reputable festival with subject of environmental creation and protection in the world. Since its first year in 1995 came into the film competition films from the whole world, step by step with new faces in the international jury and new dramaturgy of festival also the cooperation with similar festivals in Europe had extended.
The year 2000 was another margin stop in festival life. Then the director of the Royal Award Foundation from Denmark gave to this festival in Banska Bystrica the award for increasing the environmental awareness of public through films and media.
In 2001 six European environmental festivals from Russia, Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia had presented their best films with subject of environmental protection on the 1th International Festival of Environmental Festivals ECOmove in Berlin’s company Sony. In 2002 had on this international festival net participated also a festival from Japan .
The Envirofilm festival became with its professional level and quality of competitive films one of the world’s best occasions promoting environmental creation and protection
Association Ecomove International was created on the base of previous activities and agreement of future cooperation of all partners and on the 10 th May 2002 became international non-profit organisation, established and signed by all members within the 8 th edition of the festival Envirofilm in Banska Bystrica.
The members of ECOmove International prepared and supported environmental festival of high surveillance and importance within The World Summit of the Earth in Johannesburg in South Africa in August and September 2002 and in 2003 they had organised The 2 ndInternational Festival of Environmental Festivals in Berlin.
On the invitation of Japan partner the executive board of ECOmove International Association prepared a film presentation of the European environmental festivals within the whole world exhibition EXPO 2005.
Programmes and people change, but festival will stay especially an occasion for all, who care about the world around, an occasion for speak to school students and convince them, that in rivers should swim fishes instead of PET- bottles, and that many things we can influence by ourselves.
