Envirofilm is a member of International Association of Environmental Festivals ECOmove International

Festival ENVIROFILM

  • Has been declared by the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic as the largest educational and promotional public event within it’s auspices.
  • Is a member of the International Association of Environmental Film Festivals ECOMOVE International and exclusively represents the Slovak Republic . Other members are from Germany , the Czech Republic , Italy , Russia , Poland , Portugal and Japan .
  • Was cited as one of the contributing factors in the nomination of Banska Bystrica as a candidate for the 2013 European Culture Capital.
  • Orchestrates events simultaneously in four Central Slovakia cities - Banská Bystrica, Zvolen, Banská Štiavnica and Kremnica.
  • Includes the annual screening of Slovak heritage films, drawn from the archive of the Slovak Film Institute, with subjects relative to the current festival theme.
  • In cooperation with the Union of Slovak Television Programmes Makers, organises annual seminars for amateur and professionals film producers.
  • Promotes children’s environmental education through festival participation in the Green World artistic competition where children submit their paintings, drawings, photographs and animated films. Exceptional paintings, drawings and photographs are framed under glass and distributed for display to schools, hospitals and Slovak Environmental Agency facilities.
  • Supports talented environmental documentarians through financial awards for the festival Grand Prize and The Best Slovak Film Prize.
  • Awards the annual prize of the U.S.A. based Christine Baltzer Parks Environmental Foundation to the winner of the “Green World” children’s art competition.
  • Presents the Union of Slovak Television Programmes Makers and Literary Fund Lifetime Achievement Award to a Slovak producer who has made long-term audio-visual contributions to the field of nature protection and environmental awareness.
  • Hosts foreign and domestic dignitaries attending the festival as guests of the Slovak Minister of the Environment and festival partners.
  • Hosts distinguished foreign and domestic film makers who offer their insights and experiences through public seminars and film shows.
  • Traditionally enjoys large public attendance at film screenings in all participating cities.
  • Annually receives well over one hundred films submitted to the competition. In 2007 ENVIROFILM received 157 films from 27 countries.
  • Has accumulated more than 1000 films from past festival competitions which are now housed in the Slovak Environmental Agency library and offered free of charge to the public.
  • Promotes the festival and its partners through the screening of ENVIROFILM films at other ECOMOVE partner festivals.
  • Promotes the festival through numerous television, radio and magazine venues.
