THE GREEN WORLD 2014

The 19th International Contest of Children’s and Youth’s Artistic Creativity takes place in conjunction with the International Environmental Film Festival - ENVIROFILM 2014. It is organised in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Slovakia and under the patronage of the Slovak Commission for UNESCO and of the European Environment Agency.

Objective
To instil love for nature and the environment into children, pupills and students by creation of habits and skills in their artistic self-expression. Works submitted to the contest should have a creative and motivating character representing their attitude toward life and nature.

The topic of the year 2014: PLACE FOR PEOPLE
Cities and municipalities are public spaces, where we meet, work, walk or relax. There are squares, parks, streets, and buildings, neighbourhood units, parking areas and shops. They represent a sort of “anthill“, which at first glance is dominated by concrete human creations and the characteristic traffic noise.  When we walk along the streets not once we are delighted by seeing an old patulous tree, lined alley at the village entry or a pedestrian zone in the square. It seems as if there is no space for nature, but in fact the opposite is the true!  Public spaces fulfil many functions. City parks and school gardens act as “green lungs“, which “inhale“ dust, dirt and noise. Squares are becoming open galleries and theatre stages and as well streets are changing into corridors that support ecological forms of transport, various art forms and different ways of spending leisure time. People are increasingly realising the importance of these areas and therefore are more actively trying to influence their appearance.

Walk along the streets of your city or municipality and observe its public spaces – place for people. How do they appear or how should they appear according to you? What stories are occurring there?  What did they look like in the past and why were they created? How are people using them nowadays and how do they treat them?  What means of transport are people using within them?  What issues are they facing? Do you have your favourite place and what does it mean for you? Express to the people your feelings, experiences or suggestions for your place by brush, pencil, charcoal or camera and join international art competition.
